A trendy urban design bicycle made from bamboo with a special story February 26 2013, 0 Comments

Blackstar Bikes was founded by a group of entrepreneurs from Amsterdam who noticed that the African continent exports a lot of raw materials yet little 'manufactured' consumer goods.

As manufacturing consumer goods leads to more profits and more skilled labour, Blackstar bikes aims to help local communities in Africa to participate in the making of consumer goods with local raw materials.

The bike frames are made from bamboo sourced from Central Ghana and are handmade by craftsmen who bind the wooden components together using sisal fibers derived from Northern Ghana. A high share of the retail price of the bikes is for the makers in Ghana.
